Also, I'm curious about if there's some (or a lot?) of growth organically through the Shopify store itself? Can you build a great app and rely on Shopify's distribution, or would you need to find clients yourself outside of Shopify's distribution?

Yes you can use only Shopify App Store if you are on the first page, but don't rely only on that
