Give Notion the superpowers of Google Sheets
Notion has become a central place for me to write my notes. Happy to see another product built around it (extending its core functionality). Great job growing this to $600 MRR!
Want to share your plans for 2022?
Thanks Rauno! I am trying to find PMF, it is a great tool but for now only really valuable to a small part of the users.
I think Notion releasing their integrations marketplace will be hopefully huge and in the meantime waiting for new APIs to add functionality 🙌
How did you come up with the idea?
I was developing a Google Workspace Add-On that connects the leading e-commerce platform from Latam to Google Sheets when I heard about the release of the Notion API.
After learning more about Notion, its strong and weak points and what users were asking for I decided to build Notion2Sheets. I went from idea to publishing to the marketplace in 2 weeks!
I was able to reuse some of the knowledge I acquired from the other side project but I think being first in this case was important.
How did you find your first customers?
Reddit and Facebook groups. The Notion subreddit has today 185k members and the Notion Made Simple group on Facebook 57k. I started participating in both communities, answering questions, asking questions, sharing the progress I was making and all the cool things you could do with Notion2Sheets.
It is super important to not spam, you need to be a valuable member and find the right way of sharing.
How are you finding your customers today?
I am still participating in the communities but I have also written some blog posts with use cases and how to use the product to give Notion superpowers.
Surprisingly around 85% of Notion2Sheets traffic is organic, people looking for ways to solve things regarding Notion or looking for a way to integrate it with Google Sheets. I haven’t done any advertising yet.
Advice for other microfounders who want to get started?
I was afraid of bugs, like releasing a new version and breaking everything and having people come to my house and burn it. Happily that has never been the case, even with important bugs! You can always fix them and contact the users to let them know what happened. Just build and release, build and release, don’t spend weeks and week's writing code without releasing it into the wild. Start small and then grow from there.
Congrats on reaching $1k MRR! If you can get to $1k, you can get to $5k and beyond.
Do you know what's the main use case, or who is your average customer? (what kind of data people are syncing from Notion to Sheets)
It will be a lot of work to reach $5K 😅
I have talked with many many users and they fell in two categories ⤵️
Personal: finances, habit trackers, todos, books, etc
Business: CRM, content creation, back links tracking, KPIS, roadmaps, clients, etc
